Old-school trainers from the early 1990s told me that when dogs placed their paw on top of any part of my body, they were attempting to assert dominance over me.
Bowpi will use her paws for attention, but “dominant” is probably the last word I would use to describe her.
Look at her ears, her closed eyes, her downturned face. Does this seem like a “dominant” dog?
And am I really overindulging her by giving her attention when she asks for it in such a gentle manner?
The Doggy Daddy is apparently an even greater victim of her manipulations. She not only puts her paw on top of him, but sometimes her ENTIRE BODY.
Gosh, we’re such suckers for letting this Basenji walk all over us!
